In Your Hand, George’s Bed

To celebrate the Manchester Shipping Canal in Warrington, let us  go back in history and introduce you to local lad George Clayton. Here his wife comforts him on his deathbed and tells the story of his life.

Born to a farm hand in Woolston, George had many jobs from working the plough, serving in the 5th Royal Dragoons in Afghanistan and as a navvy building the Manchester Shipping Canal. He had two children, Frederick and Elizabeth and lived in a 2 bed dwelling on Church Street. At age 42, he died  on New Years Eve 1895 from multiple illnesses including tuberculosis. Illnesses that were bought on through a life of hard graft and poor living conditions.

The Litter Network

Have you ever spotted groups of high viz wearing volunteers litter picking by roads, rivers and alleyways? Warrington has an extensive litter picking network tackling the wave of rubbish that finds it’s way onto our streets each day. Tom went on a Tuesday adventure with them & joined their WhatsApp group. This is a little collection of findings.

Thank you to all who tread the pavements, parks and byways and keep Warrington a much cleaner and tidier place.

Leafy’s Big Adventure

Leafy leads a simple life and eats the same things every day. One day his woodpecker friend encourages him to seek out new adventures and new food to eat.

For this episode Tom Barry collaborated with the children from Year 2 at Bruche Primary Academy School in Warrington to create the character of Leafy and his story. Tom & Flick Goodman then turned their work into a story book. Tom & Flick then did workshops and recordings with the class to bring their story of Leafy to life for this podcast.

All the sound effects and character’s voices were performed by the children from Year 2 at Bruche Primary Academy School. www.brucheprimary.co.uk
